19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
Here the Lord Jesus tells us not to store up treasures on earth, because treasures on earth don’t last, they can be eaten by moths, rusted, and stolen by thieves. The Lord Jesus wants us to store up treasures in heaven, where no moths will eat, won’t be rusted, and no thieves will steal. How can we store up treasures in heaven? When we give to the needy and the poor, the Lord will remember us, and we will store up treasures in heaven. The Lord Jesus also said that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. If your treasure is on earth, and your heart is on earth, if your treasure is in heaven, and your heart is in heaven. Let us store up treasures in heaven, for treasures in heaven last forever.
