10 The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?” 11 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist. (Matthew 17:10-13)
Some people believe in reincarnation, that is, after death, a person will be reborn in another body in the next life. This is not in line with the Bible. Some people quote a verse above to support their views. A verse above says that Elijah has already come, the Lord Jesus compares John the Baptist to Elijah here. Some people believe that John the Baptist is the reincarnation of Elijah, Elijah is a prophet in the Old Testament.
As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. (2 Kings 2:11)
Here it says that Elijah ascended to heaven. Elijah and Enoch are only two people recorded in the Bible who did not die and were taken to heaven by God. Elijah did not die, so there was no reincarnation to talk about.
They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” (John 1:21)
When people asked John the Baptist who he was, he said that he was not Elijah, nor was he the prophet, that is, the Lord Jesus prophesied in the old testament. Here we see that John the Baptist is not Elijah.
And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17)
Here it says that John the Baptist has the spirit and power of Elijah, he prepared the way for the Lord, and turned people to God. This is also what the Lord Jesus meant, John the Baptist is like Elijah and has the spirit and power of Elijah, but he is not Elijah.
2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:2-3)
The Lord Jesus said that there are many rooms in the heavenly Father’s house, that is, in heaven. If not, He would go and prepare a place. When He comes again, he will take us to our heavenly home. In the millennium, that is, when the Lord Jesus reigns on earth for a thousand years, we will work for the Lord. He does not want people to reincarnate and live on earth again.
May God bless you and your family!
