The death of Jesus

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.  54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!” 55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons. 57 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. 58 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb. (Matthew 27:51-61)
When the Lord Jesus was crucified, the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. During the Old Testament times, the Holy of Holies of the Temple was where God lived and only the High Priest could enter once a year, the veil separated the people from God, the veil split from top to bottom, symbolizing that Jesus’ death broke that barrier, allowing believers to come directly to God, to God’s presence through Jesus.
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, (Hebrews 10:19-20)
Here it talks about the veil being the body of the Lord Jesus, when the Lord Jesus died on the cross, the veil is torn, and people can enter the Holy of Holies, to the presence of God with confidence through the Lord Jesus.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.(John 14:6)
The Lord Jesus here says that He is the way, the truth, the life, He is the only way to the Father, only through Him can one go to the Father.
When the Lord Jesus was crucified, not only did the veil break in two, but the earth shook and the rocks split, and when the Lord Jesus was resurrected, many saints who were dead came out of their graves, resurrected and appeared to many. When the centurions and those who guarded Jesus saw the earthquake and other things, they were greatly frightened, and they knew that Jesus was truly the Son of God.
Later we see a rich man, Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus, went to Pilate and asked for the body of the Lord Jesus, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his new tomb.
He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9)
This Old Testament verse prophesies that the Lord Jesus died, crucified with the criminals, and was buried with the rich man when he died, this is what we saw earlier that he was buried in the tomb of Joseph the rich man.
Hope that more people will be born again and be saved through baptism, through the Lord Jesus, enter into the presence of God.
May God bless you and family!
