Luke 14:7-11 7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
When Lord Jesus saw that the invited guest chose the place of honor, he told this parable. When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t take the place of honor, but take the lowest place, and then He concluded that for all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. The wedding feast here represents the kingdom of heaven. In the kingdom of heaven, all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:1-4)
When the disciples asked Lord Jesus who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, Lord Jesus told us to change and become like little children, and then said that whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but give grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)
Just as water rushes down from lofty mountain tops accumulating in the lowliest of places, so does God give grace to the humble. God is close to the humble and contrite in heart, God’s presence is with the humble.
May God bless you and your family 😊
