Jesus and the miraculous catch of 153 Fish
John 21:1-14 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
Today I would like to talk about the number 153, 153 fish Peter and other disciples catch. In 2017 the Lord led me to share gospel to my high school classmates wechat chat group. The total number of people in the chat group now is 151, very close to number 153, once it reached 153 for some time, even 154 for a while, later I guess a couple of people left the chat group, sometimes new people join in. Now I do gospel posting twice a week, I post hymns, testimonies, messages, etc. the Lord led me know the importance of posting songs, so I post song every time I post something else. the Lord also led me know the importance of sharing the gospel on the internet and encourages more people to share gospel on the internet.
Before I prepared this sharing, I had a idea to count other people I share gospel to in wechat. Right now I have 88 people in my friend circle, I also share gospel to other chat groups, such as university group, Concordia university group, etc. I counted all the people, it is 152 people. Among 152 people, there are a few repeats, becasue a few people in my friend’s circle, also in chat group, in total, there are less that 152 people, but it is interesting, it is also close to number 153.
If I can reach any people, it is by God’s grace, as 153 fish disciples catched are from the Lord. I would like to give all glory to the Lord, hope by the Lord’s grace to reach more people, catch more fish for the Lord.
May God bless everyone.
Put the Lord first
Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Here we see that Lord Jesus in the early morning went to a lonly place to pray. Lord Jesus gave us an example, we should also do the same, the first thing we need to do every morning is to pray, draw near to God, seek God, seek His face, seek His preserence.
Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Here we see that Mary sits at the Lord’s feet listening to the Lord’s word while martha distracted, worried and upset about many things, the Lord says that Mary has chosen the good part. Besides praying and drawing near to God in the moring, we should also do so in the evening. I also find myself that if we put the Lord first, put prayer and drawing near to the Lord first, the Lord will take care the rest and our life will be more productive, as we know that He is the vine, we are the branches, we need to totally depend on Him in order to bear fruit.
Apart from me, you can do nothing
John 15 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
Here it says that the Lord Jesus is the vine, we are the branches, we need to abide in the Lord in order to bear fruit, apart from Him, we cannot bear fruit, we can do nothing. We are not so busy that we can not spend quality time with the Lord, not even busy with the Lord’s work.
If we don’t abide in the Lord, we will dry up, unable to bear any spiritual fruit. We cannot depend on ourselves to bear fruit, but need to totally depend on the Lord to bear fruit.
Teeth infection and pain healed after prayer
Not long ago, a sister caught a cold and had sputum in her throat. She got a lot better a couple of days after prayer. Not long later the cold was completely healed. Then she told me that she had dental infection and pain. She asked me to pray for her. After prayer, not long later she had no more dental infection and pain. Thank the Lord, glory to His name. 😊🙏
Sharing on “draw near to God, He will draw near to you”
Not long ago, I shared a short message on WeChat on “draw near to God, He will draw near to you.” quoting James 4:8. I shared it on Saturday, the following day on Sunday, the Pastor in our church shared the same message “draw near to God, He will draw near to you.”. Later I was thinking to listen to prayer quiet time music on YouTube. The first verse came up in the video was also “draw near to God, He will draw near to you”. Thank the Lord. 😁🙏
Jesus is my best friend
Let me introduce you to My friend, Jesus. He is with you everywhere you go, He listens to every cry and shares in all your laughter. He rejoices with you in the springtime…when new life is budding out of the Earth. He rejoices with you as you lie in piles of golden leaves and with the wild lavender asters that dot the fields in the Fall.
He laughs with you at the antics of the new puppy, and cries with you when you must say good bye to your beloved pet. Oh, He is so present to you, my friend, so familiar to you, you don’t even notice Him – but He is here. When someone passes away, He upholds you with infusions of peace, allowing you to go through the steps of saying good-bye to your loved one. He slowly releases the sorrow in you, so you are not overwhelmed. When He brings a new life into your womb, He provides all that is needed to raise that child.
Oh, everything He does is underpinning Your life, and He is so close…and so much a part of you, you don’t recognize Him, until it is His time to reveal His presence to you. Then the joy of discovery is there. “You WERE there when my mother passed! You WERE there when I made that career decision that changed my life! You WERE there when I went to the pound to get a kitten. You have ALWAYS been there, and I never knew it. You were there in the ER when I thought I was dying, and You held me securely so that fear did not overwhelm me. You were there when I was all alone after that abusive relationship. You were even there during that, waiting for me to say ‘enough!'”
You gave me the courage to begin a new life! You encouraged me that I COULD do it. You were there when I walked into the thrift store needing new clothes with only a few dollars and You filled my bag with everything I needed! In fact, You were the one who inspired the wealthy lady to get rid of those beautiful clothes she never wears. You even measured the timing, so I would walk in just as they were putting her clothes on the rack.
You knew I needed a car, and You brought me just what I needed, and then when it broke down You gave me favor with the mechanic to repair it for less than the going rate. You even moved on his heart so that I could manage payments.
You have been with me, all along, and I’ve never known it. Even when life seemed unfair, You were with me encouraging me to move on without looking back. You were there in the glorious sunset and there when three deer walked out into the meadow. You even arranged that cardinal singing outside my window, sparkling with frost in the early morning light.
Yes, You do all things well and now You have come to invite me into Your world, never to feel alone again? Amazing!
A true story about Psalm 91
And here is a true story about Psalm 91
In the second World War, there was a regiment of 900 men, And the commander of the regiment had the men say Psalm 91 every single day before they did anything, going out to war. Every single day. 900 men. While other regiments were in the battles and were being wounded and killed, during the entire world war, not one single man in this regiment was wounded or killed. Not even one!!! Out of 900 men! That should tell you, dear ones. GOD honors this prayer with tremendous angelic protection.
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Now coronavirus spreads in different countries, hope more people turn to God, pray to God and pray psalm 91 with faith to ask God to protect you from this virus.
Pray for healing
2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
In order for God to heal us, we need to humble ourselves, sometimes it is because of pride, the Lord allows sickness to humble us. We need to seek His face, seek His presence. We first seek His face, seek His presence before seeking His healing. Seek His face, seek His presence is the most important thing. Some sickness are because of sin, some are not. We need to confess our sin, repent our sin in order to get healed.
