Jesus Heals a Woman with an Issue of Bleeding

43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” 47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:43-48)
This passage is about Jesus healing a woman suffering from bleeding. This woman had been bleeding for twelve years, spending all her money on medical treatment, but no doctor could heal her. She had heard about Jesus, the parallel passage in Matthew says that she believed that if she touched Jesus’ cloak, she would be healed. So she touched the tassel of Jesus’ cloak and immediately the bleeding stopped. According to the Old Testament, Jewish men wore tassels on their cloaks so that they would see them and remember to obey all God’s commands (Numbers 15:39). In the Old Testament, a woman suffering from bleeding was considered unclean; the bed she lay on and the things she sat on during her illness were considered unclean, and anyone who touched these things was considered unclean and would remain unclean until evening, and would have to wash their clothes and bathe in water (Leviticus 15:25-27). When she touched the tassel of Jesus’ cloak, her bleeding stopped, and she was cleansed. Jesus asked who touched him, because he felt power coming from him. Jesus knew who had touched him, but he wanted the woman to tell her healing to everyone. Then Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace!” This woman, because her faith in Jesus, was not only healed from her bleeding but also received spiritual salvation. Jesus called her daughter; she was accepted by Jesus and became a child of God.
May God bless you and your family!
